Government Battery Rebates in 2026: What Actually Changed

Government battery rebates in 2026

Federal and state incentives for home battery storage shifted again this year across Queensland. The key change is the transition towards capacity-based rebates that reward intelligent Virtual Power Plant (VPP) integration and high-yield storage systems.

For homeowners in South East and Regional Queensland, STCs (Small-scale Technology Certificates) continue to provide a significant upfront point-of-sale discount on solar PV panels, while state battery schemes offer additional incentives up to $4,000 for qualifying residential installations.

Understanding Feed-in Tariff Changes

As grid feed-in rates stabilize around 5c to 8c per kWh, exporting midday solar surplus back to energy retailers delivers diminishing financial return. Capturing that daytime solar surplus in a 10 kWh to 15 kWh modular home battery (such as modular battery storage systems) yields far higher savings by eliminating peak evening grid imports (which cost upwards of 35c to 45c per kWh).

SEBSS handles all government rebate applications and STC lodgements directly on your behalf, ensuring your invoice reflects all available discounts from day one.
